Rita Mitchell

Life is truly about relationships. The connections we share with other people may bring us joy, give us support or sometimes even cause us emotional pain. As we journey through life, all individuals experience challenge, change, and conflict. It takes courage to confront our problems, navigate change and move through difficult and emotionally painful transitions. As we strive for balance, we may find that we need help and support.

Counseling involves entering a collaborative relationship while seeking to resolve issues, promote wellness and spur personal growth. I believe my responsibility as a counselor is to help clients heal, discover, change, and build new skills as they grow. My role involves building a trusting relationship and selecting appropriate treatment approaches in order to help clients as they work through personal struggles, learn from mistakes and successes, and move toward emotional well-being.

I specialize in counseling children ages 5-12, and encourage their parents to partner with me. Working in a safe, comfortable and confidential setting, I feel privileged to help children find their voice, work through difficult developmental transitions, and heal. Because children learn best through play, our counseling sessions will incorporate activities that help children engage in the therapeutic process – creative play, art, games, puppets, books and other age appropriate interventions.

I have office hours on Monday evenings by appointment only.  Please contact me so we can discuss the concerns you have for your child and set up a time to begin our work together.
