Life is a journey of discovery that sometimes presents us with unforeseen challenges. When such challenges
become difficult to navigate or interfere with life functioning, counseling can help restore clarity, direction and energy to our lives. I believe that the counseling relationship can help identify one’s strengths and resources, and help one learn more helpful ways of thinking, behaving and relating. I am committed to

helping clients explore their unique strengths and potential, formulate goals and work toward positive change and meaningful solutions to their life’s issues. I take seriously my responsibility, and the incredible opportunity to help clients navigate the challenges they face and achieve the personal growth they desire.

My approach is based in Cognitive Behavioral theory, but also draw from other therapies, including Family Systems, Client-centered, Solution-focused Brief, Reality, Psychodynamic and others.

Experience

Thirty years as a public school educator have provided me with extensive experience in working with adolescents, adults and families. The past sixteen years I have served as a guidance counselor at Plainwell High School, where I chaired both my department and the crisis team. The majority of my teaching career was spent working with at-risk youths in alternative education and my early counseling experience was with teens and their families at The Ark, a crisis intervention center and runaway shelter in Kalamazoo.
